- Full-time
- On-site
Head of Engineering
You will help ensure our product meets high standards of reliability and safety.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and continuously improving engineering workflows and delivery processes to enhance development velocity, organizational scalability, and uphold the highest technical, quality, and safety standards.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, comprising multidisciplinary engineers, product managers, and medical professionals to ensure that our technology architecture and system designs meet the highest standards for patient care while aligning with complex regulatory and clinical guidelines.
Key
responsibilities
-
Leadership & Scaling
Own all people operations within engineering, including 1:1s, performance management, and career development paths for both managers and senior individual contributors. Transition the department from "Founder-led" to "Process-led." Establish predictable sprint cadences, rigorous code/design reviews, and cross-functional hardware-software integration milestones. Lead the engineering headcount plan, from sourcing and hiring to onboarding.
-
Operational Excellence
Transition the organization to a predictable, "Process-led" model. You will establish sprint cadences, rigorous code/design reviews, and clear cross-functional milestones. Translate high-level strategic roadmaps into detailed technical requirements, resource allocations, and realistic release dates. You own the "ship date."
-
Medical Compliance (QMS/DHF)
You own the technical content of the Design History File (DHF), ensuring we are "audit-ready" at all times for FDA and EU regulators. Ensure every line of code and hardware revision meets ISO 13485 and IEC 62304 standards. -
Sustaining & Reliability
Manage the current product’s lifecycle, including bug-fix prioritization, tech support escalation, and technology transfer to manufacturing (DFM/DFT). -
Strategic Delivery
Partner with the CTO to translate high-level roadmaps into detailed technical requirements, resource allocations, and realistic release dates. -
Bridge to Production
Oversee the technology transfer into manufacturing (DFM/DFT) and manage the relationship with factory operations. Lead the "Sustaining" function, ensuring field issues, bug fixes, and reliability improvements are handled efficiently without distracting the core R&D team from next-gen development.
Required skills
10+ years in engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Head of, Director, or VP) within a regulated medical device or high-stakes robotics company.
You have previously joined a startup at 15–20 people and successfully scaled the team to 50–100+, leaving behind a legacy of strong processes and leaders.
You have shipped Class II or III medical devices and understand that documentation is an essential part of the product, not an afterthought.
You speak the languages of mechanical engineering, embedded software, and AI. You can mediate complex technical trade-offs across different domains.
You don't need to be the smartest person in the room; your pride comes from the efficiency of the team and the reliability of the ship date.
